Financial Abuse Support Guide
To shine more light on financial abuse, The Allstate Foundation amplified the voices of three domestic violence survivors and the loved ones that helped them escape through a series of animations as well as a new online resource built in partnership with Hello Sunshine and Vox Creative. The hub features moving, beautifully designed interactive and colorful, yet nuanced images illustrating red flags and warning signs of abuse, facts, and helpful tips that can be shared on social media to bring further awareness to this insidious form of abuse.
Process
This series focused on the heavy topic of financial abuse, so we wanted to make sure when it came to the art direction that we captured the right emotion without it getting too dark, because these stories do have hopeful endings. We worked with VoxMedia to develop a series of style frames to establish the look and feel before moving into storyboards. The final direction included using a mix of painterly brushes and textures to express emotion without having to show triggering imagery.
Storyboarding
Next we moved into the storyboarding phase, where we established the composition, animation direction and sound design for each scene across all three survivor stories. This is also where we determined how the scene transitions would play out and even created some animation tests for a few to make sure they would work correctly before moving into production.
Social Executions
In addition to the Financial Abuse Support Guide website where the three hero videos lived, Hello Sunshine wanted a series of supporting gifs to post on social to explain the warning signs of how to spot financial abuse.
